(Charleston, IL) – In a proactive step to promote the health and well-being of its campus community, Eastern Illinois University (EIU) has installed a new “health and wellness” vending machine located in the Martin Luther King, Jr. University Union, next to the US Bank ATM. Aside from fitting EIU’s Student Life mission to empower students to reach their full potential, the initiative also comes in response to a State mandate aimed at enhancing health resources for university students, staff, and faculty.
The innovative vending machine is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, ensuring that all EIU community members—as well as the public—have the ability to meet their health and wellness/personal care item needs, catering to a variety of necessities that are often critical for busy students and staff.
The new machine uniquely serves the EIU community by allowing payments via credit or debit card; however, students should note that the Panther Card and cash payments will not be accepted. This modern payment system is designed to streamline the purchasing process and encourage healthier choices swiftly and easily.
The health and wellness of students is an ongoing priority at EIU, especially during periods of increased academic pressure, stress, and transitional life challenges.
“We believe that by providing easy access to health-related resources, we are not only addressing students’ immediate needs but also fostering a culture of wellness on our campus,” said Matthew Warner, assistant director of EIU’s Health Education Resource Center.
With the introduction of this vending machine, EIU aims to emphasize the importance of maintaining good health habits and making conscious lifestyle choices. In addition to convenient access to health items, the university will be highlighting the significance of physical and mental wellness through various campaigns and resources available for students and staff throughout the year, compliments of EIU’s Health Education Resource Center (HERC).
EIU prepares students to accomplish their life goals through a combination of quality academics, personal relationships, and both on-campus and online learning opportunities.
