Duties and Responsibilities: TRIO/SSS Program - Program Initiatives
The federally funded TRIO program offers academic assistance to 175 undergraduate students at Eastern Illinois University. The goal of the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program is to increase retention and graduation rates of eligible students and to foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low-income, first-generation, and/or college students with disabilities. Additional services are designed to provide financial and economic awareness education and to assist students in applying to graduate and professional degree programs.
- Attend Mandatory Professional Staff Training scheduled for August
- Assist in recruiting and interviewing new participants
- Provide academic support services to a caseload of 30-35 students
- Co-Teach a University Foundation course (EIU 1111)
- Develop and facilitate (2) workshops per semester
- Assist the Director in organizing graduate school visits
- Attend and supervise (1) graduate school visit per semester
- Assist the Director in organizing cultural or extracurricular activities
- Assist in facilitating student leadership activities
- Work (3) weekends out of the year [EIUnity Diversity Conference, ACCESS Granted, and BSR], when needed
- Build relationships with Resident Assistants in the Resident Halls (to assist with Early Alerts)
- Attend monthly meetings with the Dean of Student Success /Graduate Assistants/Intern Students
- Attend weekly staff meetings, orientations, and TRIO/SSS program events
- Create monthly bulletin boards at least (2) per semester
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Directors of TRIO/SSS and Dean of Student Success, Assist with the Cultural Recognition/Graduation Reception
- Serve as a Peer Academic Coach in the Gregg Technology Center (GTC) for two hours per week
- Work with one student group that serves the underrepresented student population
Special Qualifications
- Experience working with first-generation, low-income, and other underrepresented students preferred
- Involvement in undergraduate student organizations
- Familiar with social media platforms and possible ways to assist with communication and marketing
